Challenge Charter School
en Glendale, AZ
My children thrive at this school. Many types of learners succeed here- which I’ve personally witnessed within my own family. The teachers know every single name and there is love radiating on this campus. I recommend this school to anyone looking for something outside of a big box public school- CCS is one that really cares about your child.

I won't recommend this school to any one. When my child asked questions to her teacher to try to get her help, the only answer she got from her teacher was 'Go, ask your friend', it happened again and again in the whole school year, as a result, my child was afraid to ask. Similar things kept happen, my child felt not respected in that school.

Goucher Elementary School
en Gaffney, SC
It's a new charter school in SC. My son stayed 2 years for 5th and 6th grade. Fewer students so it's not crowded. No library and playground for bigger kids. They use their gym as cafeteria with small tables for toddlers not big enough for 6th graders. They are short of teachers. My son's teacher has more absent than him like more than 15 this year. In some cases, they have to go to different grade classes because no teacher is available to watch them. No extra classrooms, they have to seat on the floors. One time my son asked for extra work in school because he was so bored doing nothing and his teacher got mad at him for speaking up. I transferred my son to different school but this school is ok if you like low numbers of kids.

Pinecrest School
en Annandale, VA
We have been a Pinecrest family for 5 years, starting with kindergarten. My kids love going to school each day and feel safe, listened to, and free to express themselves. I see their confidence growing each day. The best part about Pinecrest is the amazing teachers, dedicated staff, and small classes. It is not a school for everyone (there are no busses or cafeteria) but it is the "right size" for early childhood through elementary school. In some ways, it has the feel of a one room schoolhouse, although there are separate buildings for the upper and lower years. The classes are not mixed ages like Montessori, but sometimes grades 4-5 or 5-6 are combined, depending on enrollment. Class sizes are about half the size of public school, or smaller. The older kids are "big buddies" to the younger students and become friends and mentors. It is so sweet! Unlike some private schools, it is not religious or snobbish. Everyone is very genuine and down-to-earth. The school is pretty diverse. Although there is no foreign language instruction, they explore multicultural themes each month. The teachers and staff encourage empathy, community service (K-Kids meets afterschool and the kids choose service projects), and socio-emotional learning. A highlight of this year was the performance/acting special, which met twice a week and culminated in a school-wide performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.

We have 2 boys who have gone Pre-5th so far. The small class sizes and the involved staff make all the difference. And the family nights are well attended. It's community-based all around. This year the school won a lot of awards and 7th & 8th graders surpassed the state average in almost all subjects. There is a lot happening there (they are going to expand the school after a recent levy) and it has a ton of after school clubs, programs, and sports - and busing home after! Our oldest son is in the gifted program and has been doing projects on WWII and he has quickly become an expert. In addition to the small class sizes, we really value that it is Pre-8 in one building, so all staff knows all students for the entire time they are there and form deeper bonds, and there is no middle-school transition. We were hesitant to send our boys there initially several years ago, but we're glad we made the decision to and we are also looking forward to their new 8th grade algebra course that gives the kids a leg up on high school. This school is right sized for community-minded families who like to be involved and also know that their kids are in a great learning environment.

Teachers are really good and down to earth, if you show up to class and turn in your work on time you'll get at least a B in most classes. The security at this school was ok. I made some great memories, teachers were good, admin were fine. The school itself is really pretty. All in all its a good school but has some problems as every school does.

Definitely not the worst school. However the worst school my child ever attended. She was being bullied and the staff refused to do anything about it. We were told that there is nothing that could do as the state does not allow them to discipline students for bullying. We were also told that if my daughter retaliated that she would be suspended. It wasn't until we continued to go up to the school regarding the bullying that they finally started to do something. Also very concerning that the bullion was happening in class and for some reason the teacher never seen anything that happened. Never heard any of the ruckus that was going on. My daughter will not be back.

i went to this school for 2 years 7th-8th, my favorite teachers that helped me so much though out those years were Mr. Galdos, Mr. Simion, Ms. Mariela, Dr. de Lemos, Mrs. de Lemos and Mr. Parent. They helped make school fun and easier to come to!! And shout out to Ms. Alvarez for making ASB fun and making kids have a smile on their faces!

Horeb Christian School

People in the class are so mean to my child, the teachers have no care for their students, they say this school is Christian but almost none of them are, my child was even hit, and made fun of for being tall, and having a “big forehead”. I knew my child was safe in this school, but learnt little in this school. She only actually learnt a lot when she was in 3rd grade with Mr. Gonzalez, I took my child out of this school and she will not be going back, the teachers threaten the students if not quiet, I’d understand if they yell, but don’t threaten my child. Overall do not recommend at all.
