We have been a Pinecrest family for 5 years, starting with kindergarten. My kids love going to school each day and feel safe, listened to, and free to express themselves. I see their confidence growing each day. The best part about Pinecrest is the amazing teachers, dedicated staff, and small classes. It is not a school for everyone (there are no busses or cafeteria) but it is the "right size" for early childhood through elementary school. In some ways, it has the feel of a one room schoolhouse, although there are separate buildings for the upper and lower years. The classes are not mixed ages like Montessori, but sometimes grades 4-5 or 5-6 are combined, depending on enrollment. Class sizes are about half the size of public school, or smaller. The older kids are "big buddies" to the younger students and become friends and mentors. It is so sweet! Unlike some private schools, it is not religious or snobbish. Everyone is very genuine and down-to-earth. The school is pretty diverse. Although there is no foreign language instruction, they explore multicultural themes each month. The teachers and staff encourage empathy, community service (K-Kids meets afterschool and the kids choose service projects), and socio-emotional learning. A highlight of this year was the performance/acting special, which met twice a week and culminated in a school-wide performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Shakespeare Theatre Company.
